Our Chestnut Trees

Our chestnut trees will be available for Fall planting.  We have found after several years of growing chestnut trees that fall planted trees typically have a survival rate similar to the preferred spring planted trees.  Our seedlings will average 12”-24” or greater in height by the time of sale in the fall.  Trees will be potted trees in 2-3 gallon nursery pots ready for planting.  Under good conditions you should expect trees to be 4’-6’ tall after two growing seasons and typically grow faster after the first couple of seasons.   We have experienced some trees reaching 6’ tall after just 2 full growing seasons from fall planting. Obviously, the amount of sunlight, amount of rain/moisture, and soil type can cause these growth expectations to vary.  Chestnut trees also offer future timber value as they are typically large trees which are prized for their quality lumber.  Due to the fact that chestnut seedlings are a preferred browse of deer we strongly recommend caging each tree after planting to prevent excessive browsing by critters such as deer.
