The current system of treating injured patients, in military or civilian settings, is very inefficient. Ambulances or other MEDEVAC systems need to be deployed from hospitals to retrieve these casualties. Increased lag time and the lack of infrastructure to support the first responders often results in casualties dying in-transit. This was evident in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts where 25% of soldiers who were killed in action could have been saved if there was hospital infrastructure closer. SABRN is working on two different projects that will work together to help save more military and civilian lives: the ‘SABRN E-LifePod’ and the ‘SABRN VR-REBOA’ Projects. The SABRN E-LifePod is a transportable life-sustainment-pod with advanced medical and non-medical technologies. The E-LifePod is compact, scalable, decentralised, domain-agnostic, vehicle-agnostic, configurable, and interoperable, and will save more combat casualties in future conflicts. SABRN's VR-REBOA Project is an immersive training tool designed to prepare novice front-line responders as well as experienced clinicians for ‘just-in-time’ and ‘just-in-case’ clinical scenarios.
