 Show Specials

  • WISI, a global leader in carrier-grade video delivery platforms, broadband access, and fiber optic solutions, will showcase new features at SCTE 2019 (Booth #2238). Highlights include increased transcode capacity, SRT integration, MOBITV certification for ABR transcoding, and a live demo of WISI’s RFoG optical platform.

33% More Capacity and Next-Gen HEVC Compression

The Inca Modular Series 4400, a high-density linear and ABR transcoder for cable and IPTV networks, delivers 33% more transcoding power in a new 1RU chassis with up to 4x transcode modules. With the new 4440 chassis, operators receive greater flexibility with the ability to select between GigE or SFP+ network interface options. The 4440 supports linear transcoding of up to 48x HD or 120x SD sources and can also transcode HD or SD sources to frame-aligned, adaptive bitrate (ABR) outputs for OTT deployments.

WISI’s new HEVC transcode module is another show highlight. Built for use with the Inca Modular Series 4400, operators can use existing systems to future proof their networks. HEVC is designed to optimize video distribution with a compression savings of up to 40% over AVC while maintaining excellent picture quality. Operators also benefit from reduced long-haul transport costs and the ability to reach devices on bandwidth constrained networks, such as remote headends.

SRT Added to all WISI Headend Platforms

WISI, a member of the SRT alliance, now supports the SRT protocol in it’s intelligent headend product lines to reduce latency and increase reliability for live video delivery. Video operators can choose the Inca IP Video Platform, the Tangram High-Density Video Platform, or the Chameleon Headend Platform to detect and adapt to real-time network conditions between source and destination devices. SRT uses advanced, low latency retransmission techniques to optimize streaming performance across noisy or unpredictable networks while delivering high-quality video.

SRT applications include high-density video delivery to remote sites; transport to hospitality networks to deliver QAM or analog outputs; or direct connections from broadcasters. SRT also supports end-to-end AES encryption to ensure streams are protected between contribution and distribution endpoints.

    MOBITV and WISI

WISI’s Inca Adaptive Bitrate Transcoder 3840 is MOBITV CONNECT™ certified. WISI and MOBITV’s collaboration empowers video operators to invest in and deploy next generation multiscreen video experiences to subscribers. Video operators launching MOBITV services can now benefit from VidiOS™, Inca’s integrated analytics and monitoring platform, by adding WISI’s carrier-grade transcoders to their project.

 Press Releases

  • Niefern-Öschelbronn, June 25, 2019 – WISI Communications, together with Saudi Aramco today announced the biggest end-to-end IPTV installation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With the city of Dhahran expanding – where villas and apartments are constantly emerging to create a new, more modern living standard – the demand for high-speed Internet and IPTV has soared. A new GPON network now delivers high-speed Internet in this part of the city, and thanks to WISI now also includes a future proof IPTV system. Capable of delivering 300 free-to-air, 45 pay-TV and 12 free-of-choice encoded video on demand (VOD) channels.

A representative for Saudi Aramco said the company sought out one vendor to provide most of the technology needed. He added that with the new GPON network, the company was seeking a partner that could feed the network with a secure, high-quality and reliable IPTV system.

The IPTV system which WISI Communications supplied to Dhahran is based on two globally deployed platforms: Tangram and Chameleon. With three WISI Tangram chassis mounted with GT34 modules, video streams can be acquired from satellite transponders, while GT31 modules are used for terrestrial channels.

CAM descrambling of satellite content is performed by Tangram’s GT42 modules. And for a 24/7 IPTV experience and N+1 redundancy, each chassis also has an active backup module. Power redundancy and space for future module extensions has been left in each chassis. Together, the Tangram chassis with modules forms a high-density reception, decryption and playout headend. Chameleon Encoders are used to feed the network with a unique VOD offering. Along with WISI’s intuitive and fast middleware, WISIOn, this setup becomes an end-to-end IPTV system that now serves 3,700 TV points, or as mentioned above, 1,600 homes.

“This project shows that WISI can offer an end-to-end IPTV solution to green and brownfield projects,” says Ali Ghosein, General Manager WISI Middle East. “We believe customers want a single contact for technical knowledge. So, everything from the headend to our new IPTV middleware are provided by WISI.”

  • Vancouver, CANADA, September 10, 2019 – Home shopping network Shop LC Global Inc. recently selected WISI to help streamline distribution and connect directly with video operators – thus significantly reducing latency in their live broadcasts and eliminating costly third-party delivery services.

Using the Chameleon and Tangram headend platforms, Shop LC was able to discontinue use of a third-party company to distribute to 35 over-the-air affiliates, while reducing over 10 seconds of latency caused by legacy equipment. This provides huge savings for the network based in Austin Texas, which reaches approximately 80 million households in the United States, selling jewelry, fashion accessories and homeware at low costs.

WISI is an established leader in carrier-grade video delivery solutions with their award-winning management and monitoring tools.

Before deploying the Inca products, Shop LC had limited options involving third-party distribution of their feed to their over-the-air affiliates. The Shop LC engineering team was tasked with the role of reducing latency in their live broadcasts after an internal study found that every second of delay resulted in a loss of revenue.

Shop LC now utilizes the Tangram high-density video platform to deliver content straight from their studio to various Chameleons placed in headend locations across the U.S. – enabling them to reduce the number of devices in their delivery path and eliminate costly recurring third-party fees.

“We looked at a couple other vendors, but nobody else offered the versatility that we needed,” said Matt Ingram, broadcast engineer at Shop LC. “The Chameleon is aptly named, because it can do just about anything. It’s great because with the Chameleon we can output streams in whatever format each individual headend needs.”

The highly flexible Chameleon allows operators to bridge easily between legacy and digital environments, supporting multiple input and output formats simultaneously. This versatile platform can receive 8VSB, QAM, ASI or IP streams, and output as NTSC analog, SDI, QAM, ASI or IP. Additionally, the Chameleon’s small footprint and low-power consumption allows operators to save on headend costs by replacing inefficient legacy gear.

“Our old equipment was adding quite a bit of latency on the receiving end of our feed,” added Ingram. “Once we enabled the Chameleon, we shaved off over 10 seconds. We found latency dropped from the highest point of 15 seconds to under 4 seconds. With noticeably better video quality, the results speak for themselves.”

Shop LC also utilizes WISI’s Inca All Seeing Eye product which supports the monitoring of streams generated by other vendor equipment to provide a true network-wide view of all video streams. “Using the All Seeing Eye allows any member of the Shop LC team to monitor all of our streams with deeper visibility and better control through a simple web browser,” said Ingram.

WISI America CEO Robert Bell says he’s particularly pleased to have found a great partner in Shop LC. “We appreciate Shop LC in recognizing the quality of our products and the value we bring to broadcasters and video operators alike.”
