 Press Releases

  • Paris, France – September 13th, 2019 – Witbe, the leader in Quality of Experience monitoring, has released the sixth edition of its QoE Snapshots: “Who Is The Best video operator in North America and Europe? Part 1”. This article is the first part of a new Snapshot series dedicated to finding the best multi-service operator (MSO) or service provider in Europe and North America! Part 1 is focused on one of the most important uses of an operator’s Set-Top Box (STB): watching live TV and changing channels. While using Witbe robots we measured large discrepancies in channel change time between service providers in Europe and North America. Part 2 will present an overview of the video quality on each platform. Part 3 will analyze the side effects introduced by triple play services and RPHY infrastructures. The following operators were tested:

    North America:
    • Altice Optimum One in New York
    • AT&T Uverse in San Jose
    • Bell Fibe in Montreal
    • Comcast Xfinity in Denver
    • Cox Contour DTA in Phoenix
    • DirectTV in New York
    • Dish Hopper in New York
    • Rogers Ignite TV in Toronto
    • TWC Spectrum in New York
    • Verizon Fios in New York
    • Videotron illico in Montreal
    Europe:
    • Bouygues BBox in Paris
    • Brandt DVB-T in Paris
    • BT UHD in London
    • Canal + Cube in Paris
    • Free Revolution in Paris
    • Orange Livebox in Paris
    • SFR Box in Paris
    • Sky Q Mini in London
    • Telefonica Movistar in Madrid
    • Virgin V6 in London
    • Vodafone Portugal in Lisbon

The Witbe robots were hosted on Witbe Cloud in 10 cities across North America and Europe: Denver, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Montreal, New York, Paris, Phoenix, San Jose and Toronto. They monitored QoE KPIs such as Channel Availability and Channel Change Time as well as Witbe VQ-ID events – Witbe proprietary algorithm for detecting severe video and audio quality deteriorations.

More than 350,000 channel changes were performed using Witbe new Channel Change engine which includes reengineered perceptual and network algorithms, a dynamic scheduling system, and a new visualization widget in Datalab – Witbe's restitution interface for fault finding, root cause analysis and advance analytics. To read the full results of the Snapshot, and discover who are the best-in-class for channel change time, please visit Witbe blog.

As a reminder, the Witbe QoE Snapshots test digital services to make information available to the market on the true Quality of Experience delivered internationally, just as consumer reports test products and publish overall quality analyses. These QoE Snapshots should not serve as benchmarks nor as rankings of operators by service or by device. Rather, the goal of these QoE Snapshots is to provide a global overview of digital services with multiple configurations, and in various environments. The previous QoE Snapshots published by Witbe have focused on: a drive test of mobile operators around London, the quality of experience of Super Bowl LIII, and the best OTT apps for Apple TV in the United States, all available on Witbe blog.

  • New York, NY – September 3rd, 2020 – Witbe (Euronext Growth – FR0013143872 – ALWIT), the leader in Quality of Experience (QoE) monitoring, announces the launch of a new feature dedicated to the detection of Emergency Alert System (EAS) warnings and other national warning systems such as Alert Ready in Canada. The EAS is used to distribute emergency alerts and warning messages regarding imminent public safety threats, such as severe weather situations and other civic emergencies. This new technology allows operators to detect any planned or unplanned EAS warning messages, ensuring a 24/7 post-device monitoring of emergency alert systems. It can be easily implemented to already deployed Witbe robots.

Witbe robots connect to real test devices and replicate end-user journeys to monitor the Quality of Experience of any digital service. Thanks to this new feature, any Witbe robot can detect EAS warning messages appearances while monitoring the QoE of a video service. Once the emergency alert has been detected, robots will measure important KPIs, such as success rate and propagation. This then generates a report containing a geographic view of EAS propagation. Additionally, Witbe robots will also perform video archiving that provides auditable records of EAS warnings to prove governments they have propagated and reached the device.

It was critical for us to develop this new service as American operators are now forced to prove to governmental organizations that they can display these EAS warning messages,” commented Mathieu Planche, Chief Executive Officer at Witbe. “We are very proud that this technology has already been successfully implemented at major multi-service operators in the USA. This new feature pushes Witbe towards a new and very exciting chapter of compliance testing!
