Description
Remember when storage moved to the edge, back when Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) were new? And a new industry sprang out of those CDNs, that we now call “the cloud?” The same thing is about to happen with “multi-access edge compute,” abbreviated “MEC”. This workshop is about how to strike the right balance between cloud and edge. Vecima’s Doug Johnson starts the session with details about the Flexible MAC Architecture (FMA), a Distributed Access Architecture that enables new ways of deploying DOCSIS functions at different locations along the access network. Next, Ciena’s David Bainbridge details a framework for a multi-cluster edge, complete with a multi-layer service mesh, over Kubernetes, to optimize compute, traffic acceleration, and connectivity. Jennifer Andreoli-Fang, AWS, moderates.
