    Description

As an industry, we have a long and colorful history of using fiber as a tool for convergence. Now, as we look to add more services to the network, we must look beyond the (fiber) splice to create an access network that can handle all possible use cases for broadband connectivity, whether wired or wireless. Enter “network slicing” and other physical and management tools to converge mobile, fixed, wired and wireless services – which is the subject of this workshop. Ciena’s Fernando Villarruel opens the discussion with a look at network slicing methods for practical implementations. Next, Nokia’s Juan Rodriquez details the role of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) can play, especially when converged with wireline access on a common broadband edge.
