Description
The quest for cable 10G services isn’t just a DOCSIS storyline: Direct fiber is an option, too. This workshop, moderated by Curtis Knittle, CableLabs VP/Wired Technologies for CableLabs, features technologists with Cox Communications and Armstrong to discuss distributed optical tap architectures and Fiber-to-the-Home activities. Cox’s Brian Yarbrough kicks it off with a deep dive on Passive Optical Networks (PONs) and next-gen FTTX deployments, including the optical splitting approach, from architectural concept to design study, product development, field trials and lessons learned. Next, Armstrong’s Michael Scardina describes work done with ADTRAN to evolve its network to FTTH and PON, including customer bandwidth demands, traffic trends, cost-benefit analysis, and more.
