Mike Darling is a Principal Engineer at Shaw Communications where he has worked since 2008. He started in the Standards and Architecture team where he tested and deployed network hardware as well as helped develop Shaw’s FTTP architecture. In 2014 Mike moved into the Technology Strategy team where he worked on network upgrade strategy, including mid-split deployment plans.
Mike began his career with Nortel, first in optical networking where he was involved in defining requirements for future optical platforms and later in wireless hardware design working on radios and power amplifiers.
Mike has a BSc and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary where he held post-graduate scholarships from the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Alberta Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE). His post-graduate research focused on advanced electromagnetics where he built novel materials using nanofabrication methods.
