The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency established by Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science; advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and secure the national defense. NSF currently invests around $700 million annually in AI research, education, and infrastructure activities that span all 50 states.
