Texas A&M Forest Service began an Urban Tree Improvement Program (UTIP) over 40 years ago: to create a supply of trees for future urban landscapes. Across the state of Texas, from small towns to urban neighborhoods, trees play a vital role in our communities. They help give a community its sense of place and provide environmental, economic, social and health benefits.

Our UTIP developed a dependable seed supply of well-adapted, fast growing, native tree species designed for urban areas. For the wholesale grower this means access to seed or liners with better survival and faster growth - resulting in a higher conversion ratio and shorter production cycle. For the retailer this means access to saplings with proven performance. For the homeowner this means a well-adapted, low maintenance tree tailored for the Texas environment.

Texas A&M Forest Service provides statewide leadership and technical assistance to ensure trees, forests and related natural resources are sustained for the benefit of all. The agency supports the state's incident response capability, protecting against wildfire and responding to a range of all-hazard incidents.
